rhythms of light

Dance has been a subject that appealed to me since my earliest days in photography. I am moved by the language of the body; the costumes, the lighting and the choreography. Far from seeking perfection, I gravitate towards creating blurred images and finding novel expressions. Without the use of flash and working with slow shutter speeds, I go in search of the unexpected, the new, the unknown. Movement becomes visual music.

Like an impressionist painter, I want to express light as a constant visual dialogue.

I often wonder how I can detain something that is in motion. Using the technology of the camera, the rhythm of the dancers serves as my brush. The resulting image is achieved when it distances itself from that which projects it; when it becomes imbued with a different artistic intention and the viewer becomes disoriented by not recognizing what they are looking at.
